You may have seen a so-called scandal unraveling yesterday on popular websites such as TMZ and Daily Mail about our CEO Freddie Taylor, and an incident involving long-time Detroit and D.C. Radio Host Mr. Donnie Simpson.

We wanted to clear the air on the falsities of the story and set the record straight.

First off, despite what the tabloid lies are spreading, no law enforcement was present at the scene, no arrests were made, and all miscommunications have been cleared up.

So what happened?

On Saturday evening, March 30th, Freddie Taylor, CEO and Founder of Urban Intellectuals, was in Washington D.C. for an event.

At around 6 pm, before the event, he and his cohort decided to go to Nisemono Japanese Bar and Grill to grab a quick bite to eat.

When they arrived it was busy, and the host let them know there was no space that evening unless they had a reservation.

Freddie, “joked” that he had a reservation under a Mr Donnie Simpson. This was made in jest for the benefit of his group.

That’s when things got strange.

The host apologized profusely and asked “Mr. Simpson” to kindly wait.

A black car arrived within 3 minutes, and they were ushered in, saying that their table was in the “area”. The car drove around to the back of the building to an unmarked red door and they were waved inside by a doorman.

Adorned with Donnie Simpson press headshots, posters, advertisements for radio shows, and his various TV spots, the room they were taken to was like some kind of Donnie Simpson museum. The only indication that they were still in the restaurant was the Japanese-style Kimono uniforms of the workers in the room.

They were taken over to a single table in the middle of the large room, a bottle of Isabella’s islay whiskey was immediately brought over and poured into small glasses for the group.

At this point, Freddie says that he tried to make it very clear that he was NOT Mr Simpson, but the staff laughed it off with one member proclaiming “You always say this Mr Simpson”.

Things were uncomfortable at this stage and Freddie tried to get up to leave but was not allowed.

About 15 minutes go by and random food starts arriving at the table. The group cautiously began to eat and hardly uttered a word, everyone was extremely weirded out.

10 more minutes go by, and that’s when things came to a head.

Mr Simpson burst through the door, mad as hell, with a member of his security detail, demanding who the imposter was and why the staff had let him into his calm space!

Freddie and his group were ejected, and the door closed before they had a chance to explain and they were left on the street in the rain, a bit dazed and confused!

They shook it off, even finding it humorous, and headed off to the evening event.

The following morning, a representative, allegedly tied to Mr Simpson, came to the hotel Freddie was staying at (it is still unclear how they knew who he was and where he was staying).

The rep apologized for the fiasco and said that after hearing from the restaurant, they understood that Mr Taylor and his guests were not 100% at fault and the matter was considered over.

However, by late morning, it was clear that somebody had leaked an embellished version of the incident to the press.

And if you read this far, you’ll know that the story is false, not just the story we said was in TMZ but the entire story….
