CLASS OVERVIEW

We spent half the time looking at important continental African young people on social media who are reviving their Ancestors’ traditions in Kenya and Ghana and Nigeria. The second half of class we talked in detail about the Sources and Methods of African history, with particular focus on PhD requirements and research expectations, as well as where course members can access these resources.

CLASS OVERVIEW

In that lesson we covered a beginning introduction to the sources and methods of African history, including but not limited to the Social Historical Method, how professional historians evaluate evidence, where it comes from, and the questions it raises. We also explored the European authored literary sources that are used by historians, and how we identify and draw distinctions between bias and perspective in these materials.
